First-Timer’s Guide

Your step-by-step introduction to the ISF World Seed Congress 2026

Welcome

Is this your first ISF World Seed Congress? You’re not alone. Every year, hundreds of participants attend for the first time, and many return year after year because of the value they gain. This guide will help you prepare, navigate, and make the most of your experience in Lisbon, Portugal from 18-20 May 2026.

Before you arrive

  1. Register Early: Secure your place as soon as possible to benefit from lower fees, visa processing time, and early access to hotel blocks.
  2. Book Accommodation & Travel: We recommend booking hotel accommodations and flights early to secure the best prices. Research your transport options to and from your place of origin and the Congress venue, CCL – Centro de Congressos de Lisboa.
  3. Explore the Delegates List and Program: Review the delegates list and Congress agenda in advance and bookmark sessions of interest. The Congress covers policy, trade, sustainability, technology, and more—plan ahead so you don’t miss out.
  4. Download the Event App (available January 2026): Closer to the event, download the ISF Congress App to build your personalized schedule, connect with other participants, and receive live updates.

On Arrival

  1. Registration & Badges: Print your badge at the registration desk. You’ll need this badge to access all sessions, exhibition areas, and networking lounges.
  2. Venue Orientation: Take a moment to explore the floor plan. Exhibition areas, trading tables, and session rooms are spread across the venue. Knowing the layout will save you time.
  3. Help Desks: Look for our information desk and volunteers. They’re here to answer questions and guide you through your first steps.

Making the Most of Your Congress

  1. Attend the Opening Ceremony: Kick off your experience by joining the opening ceremony. This is where you’ll get a big-picture view of what’s ahead and meet other attendees.
  2. Network Intentionally: Prepare your digital or physical business cards, update your LinkedIn profile, and don’t hesitate to introduce yourself. The Congress is all about building lasting relationships
  3. Visit the Exhibition Floor: A hub of innovation and connection. Explore company booths, the Future Generation Corner, the ISF pavilion, and special showcases to meet partners and discover trends.
  4. Join Social Events: Evening receptions, cultural programs, and informal gatherings are where great conversations happen. These moments often create opportunities as valuable as the formal sessions.
  5. Use the App to Connect: Schedule meetings in advance, send messages, and set reminders. Many first-time visitors find this tool invaluable for organizing their time.

After the Congress

  1. Follow Up: Reach out to the contacts you’ve made within a week. A short note of thanks or a follow-up proposal helps cement relationships.
  2. Access Materials: Revisit sessions you missed and share insights with your teams.
  3. Stay Engaged: Join ISF’s year-round activities, working groups, and other online and face-to-face events to stay connected until the next Congress.
